Community Android SDK is GA!

After a lot of late nights in the office and working with customers throughout the beta program, I’m excited to announce that the Community Android SDK is officially GA! The Community Android SDK allows brands to quickly and easily integrate community with their mobile app, enabling them to deliver a unified experience across devices. There are two paths to development: developers can quickly get started with the mobile-support UI or build a fully customized experience with an API-backed integration.

How does the Community Android SDK benefit your customers?

According to Forrester, 84% of people used a mobile app to solve a support issue compared to just 24% five years ago. By embedding community with your mobile app, your customers will be able to access self-service and crowdsourced support anytime, anywhere without leaving your mobile app.

How does the Community Android SDK benefit brands?

  • Increase call deflection with self-service and crowdsourced mobile support
  • Deliver a seamless community experience across devices. The community already lives on your website; extend that experience onto mobile and create a better integration between the community and brand experience.

What about iOS?

Android is only the first part of the solution! Our team is working on an iOS SDK with similar capabilities that will be available at the end of the year. For questions, feel free to leave a comment or reach out to me directly.

This product launch would not have been possible without contributions of the Lithium team and our customers. I’d like to give a shoutout to Samsung America, Samsung Europe, Waze, giffgaff, and Infogain for providing invaluable feedback during the beta program that helped shaped the product to what it is today.

The beta program helped us identify and ship the following notable improvements:

  • New custom SSO capability with background login
  • Added anonymous browsing support
  • New utility methods for checking user login / initialization state
  • New API providers for:
    • Creating subscriptions
    • Mark message(s) or topic(s) read/unread
    • Create user
    • Update user
    • Generic REST PUT client

To get started, read the Developer Documentation or reach out to your Technical Account Manager. Our example app provides a starting point and a reference for using the SDK libraries in your app.

Even though the beta period is over, the team and I still want to hear from you! Please post your questions and ideas on our developer discussion board.

Thanks to all everyone involved for helping us achieve this product milestone!

When I integrate the android SDK, I have a question, where do I get the parameters of the community URL.

Looking forward to your reply

@chailei9005 Glad you're starting to integrate the Android SDK!

https://github.com/lithiumtech/li-android-sdk-core/wiki/Getting-Started-with-the-Community-Android-S...

Your community URL is just the URL that is exposed publicly for your community. For this community, for instance, that value is: https://community.lithium.com. For your community that value will of course be different (and differ from your stage and production environments).

Can you elaborate a bit more on what you're looking for?

Integrating the Android SDK went very smooth and working perfect. Thank you so much. Do we have any update about iOS SDK? It was supposed to be released by the year end.

Hi @GavinD

My team are really keen to learn when the IOS SDK will be ready? Since Sep 2017 is well and truly past is there a new time we should expect release? Cheers!
