Announcements editor tribulations

Has anyone got any hints on making the HTML announcements editor easier to use? Frankly it's awful - we have three 4 line announcements that in the editor extend through 1100+ numbered lines in the editor, most of which are empty and the empty lines cannot be deleted!

I would always do my editing in a text editor like TextPad, then copy and paste that into the announcements when I was done (testing on stage first, of course). There are so many different editors out there, it would be hard for a company like Lithium to pick one and have everyone be happy. 

I completely agree about the empty lines issue, though, that always threw me. But since I did my editing in another tool, it didn't bother me too much.
