We have very simple guidelines for people who want to author KB articles on the Lithosphere. Basically, we want you to be yourself while ensuring certain consistency. If you want to write an article about a topic that has been approved, just follow these five simple rules:
Starting the article (if the article has already been created, skip this section)
- Create your article in the Growing Successful Communities KB, unless the article relates to an issue that could be exploded my malicious users (gaming the system, making insecure calls). If so, create the article in the Customer Connection KB.
- Use the Questions and Answers template if you can frame the article as a question (preferred). Otherwise, use the Freeform template.
- Create a title that describes what the article is about, using an ING verb. If the article is about troubleshooting a specific problem, use the problem as the title instead.
Authoring the article
- Remove all references to a specific community or a specific customer. You can use your common sense, but in general customer-specific URLs, usernames, and node names need to be removed.
- Write your KB article in your own tone, as a very easy-to-consume knowledge snippet, not as long and super-detailed instructions. The rule of thumb is: The KB article is only valuable if it's easier to consume than the related topic or the corresponding admin guide.
That's everyting you need to start sharing your knowledge with the community, but if you're super picky about style and consistency you can go ahead and check out our Editing Guidelines. Thank you for your contributions!
Note: Only the most engaged Lithosphereans are allowed to author Tribal Knowledge Base articles. If you can't see the New Article button, you can still contribute by nominating topics to knowledge base articles, editing articles, giving kudos, and posting comments.
