One thing I believe is key is the partnership and buy-in of other departments and business teams. A successful community echoes the strategic vision of the company, while leveraging existing marketing, PR, and legal teams to weave it into current initiatives. Also - it's important to never forget that customers seeking support will find the community, whether that is the community's intention or not, and you should have a mechanism in place in chorus with your Customer Care folks to make sure customers are never left hanging.
