Currently, we need to manually grant employee user roles to all employees account. We are also looking at the possibility of starting private partner accounts, which would require manual role assignment for all users from the partner organization.
It would be very helpful to have some type of function that automatically assign roles to email domains based on a predefined set of rules.
Another possibility is to have some type of bulk user role management tool that uses a set of logic and variables (perhaps including domain name, IP blocks..etc)

Interesting. I'd think it would need to be tied to the verification of the email address somehow as well, though. Nothing preventing registrants from using bogus email addresses otherwise.
Tying in user management to some kind of query tool for bulk updates (like user reports maybe) sounds awesome though.

Great suggestion - we have this challenge too, an dit is manual, and it is very much discovery based.
Or, the Admin gets a flood of emails from people, when the process is join and make yourself known to XYZ.

I had this customized in my community for employees and partners. Since we are integrated with RNT and use single sign-on, they were able to pull from a field in RNT to verify if the person registering is an employee or partner. If so, they are automatically put into the correct role. I love it! It saves me, as the admin, so much time and I know that I didn't miss anyone. Partners are given access to a private area so it works great for that purpose.
I would love to have this feature to assign some more roles - like by product or location or something like that. I can see endless uses and I wish I'd added more to my custom now!
