Ability to control Rank icons (left/right) by formula

In our community we currently assign an icon to the right of the username based on solution count.  We also change rank name based on post count.  For example, we have a set of 30 rank names that the user ranks into based solely on post count, ranks become harder to achieve as you go up, so while the bottom ranks might change every 25 posts, by the time you reach the top, they change only by thousands of posts.  Why 30? because we figured we'd set up a ranking system that might last us awhile... keep people trying to get to the next one.

Now, we also assign an icon by solution count as I mentioned. We add a signal bar (wireless forum, go figure) for every 10 solutions starting with "Off" once you've achieved 10, 1 bar at 20, 2 at 30, and so on up to 5 (60+ solutions).

With the ranking system as it is today, we had to create duplicate ranks of many of our rank names to accomodate folks who might have a high number of posts, but a low number of solutions. One rank for each set of bars. so... for example, we have a rank called "who's in your fave 5?" (oh no, i gave it away!) that is duplicated 7 times. SEVEN!  One with no icon, One with "Off", One with 1bar, etc etc.

This setup has left us with nearly 200 ranks in our ranking model (no, not all are duplicated like this, but the majority are).  What I'm suggesting is rather than having to specify an icon per-rank, i'd like to do it per a ranking formula.  That way I could set up a rank name and apply icons (heck, even bold/or not, colors maybe?) based on solution count or even kudos.  Maybe an icon on the left thats added/changed based on solution count and one on the right that is based on kudos count.

In any case, now that we're having users top 100 solutions, we're in need of adding a new set of icons and I don't want to keep duplicating.

Just putting that out there.

posted about this in the forums are as well with a possible idea for implementation:

But not all of us can see the idea for implementation...  :-(

no?  bummer.  here it is:

After typing that I had an idea for implementation:

Let us assign 'master' formulas globally.

In our case, perhaps a formula that says:

IF (net_accepted_solutions >= 2) && (net_accepted_solutions <= 9) THEN "icon_right" = "no-signal.gif" ELSE IF (net_accepted_solutions >= 10) && (net_accepted_solutions <= 19) THEN "icon_right" = "1-bar.gif" ELSE IF (net_accepted_solutions >= 20) && (net_accepted_solutions <= 29) THEN "icon_right" = "2-bars.gif "

and so on.  I see something like this being able to throw on the 'signal bars' icons to any rank meeting that criteria.  There should then also be the option (via checkbox) to opt-out of that system as needed per rank.
